Commander Baji Rao Deshpande of Shivaji fought a great rear guard battle to save Shivaji maharaj in 1660. The battle was fought against Siddi Masood and his army from Bijapur who was chasing Shaivaji maharaj after he escaped from Panhala gad fort near Kolhapur that was undfer long sieze. Baji prabhu laid down his life owing to wounds once he learnt that Shivaji could escape to safety by entering another safe fort.
