KONDANA fort is close to Pune and was under Mughals. on the desire of rajmata Jijabai Shivaji MAHARAJ ordered the hill fort to be captured by his general Tanaji MALSURE. he promised to capture it by next day my morning and with few crack troops he approached the fort in darkness and climbed the fort with rope ladders using a monitor lizard. he attacked the fort in darkness and in bitter fight with Mughal troops he captured the fort. However he was seriously injured in a duel with Uday bhan the fort commander whom he killed with a sword. Shivaji MAHARAJ named to fort as Sinhgad in memory of Tanaji. Tanaji is much revered as a gallant fighter and able general, the most loyal commander of Shivaji MAHARAJ.
