BABA NAINA SINGH AKALI,
5th jathedar of Budha dal who succeeded Jassa Singh Ahluwalia. Earlier was known as Narain Singh. He was given
rites of khalsa by none other them baba Darbara Singh in 1934 who was jathedar
of Akal takht. Not much is known about his early days ,but he belonged to
shahid misl where he was a junior leader with HQ at damdama, sahib In
todays Bhatinda dist. He was a friend of Ishar Singh of
Nishanarivali misl..who was mortally injured in an action in which shahid misl also took part. He handed
over his two infant sons to Naina singh and breathed last. Naina Singh took the
boys to his place and was their guardian. He took great care in bringing up the
children and trained them in all martial arts .the elder one was Phula singh
Nihang who grew into an outstanding Akali and he became jathedar of
Akal takht and advisor and commander to maharaja Ranjit singh. Naina singh is
also credited with introducing pyramid type turban for nihang sikhs which
continues even today. He is known to be adept in kirtan. In later days, he
retired to the village.
