DR K PRABHAKAR RAO
During the rule of East India Company rule, Army officers were appointed in prominent administrative appointments as governors, District and provincial heads. once queen Victoria took over administration of India, army continued to play important role in civil administration and at times were very harsh like jalian wallah bagh incident. They had Indian civil service to man important appointments. the moment India secured freedom, army's role was curtailed and systematic downgradation of services took place in a planned manner . the process is continuing even today like water flowing under mat. Consequently army lost all the powers, stature, status and charm of an uniformed service. now police guys are scoring over army in every aspect. the humiliation meted to services is never ending and continues eternally and it looks so. the fear of a coup is always at the back of the minds of politicians and beaurocrats and Menon and Nehru were responsible for it and creating fear. even Indira Gandhi had fear and asked gen SAM. he laughed it off. army iscat lowest ebb today and does not attract talented youth as officers. There is considerable shortage of officers and it is due to govt policies downgrading army and other services. god bless this nation We could not throw PLA out of our territory. God only knows what else is in store for us.
