DAMODAR HARI CHAPEKAR, REVOLUTIONARY.in1896 the city of pune in Maharashtra was devastated by bubonic plague. wC Rand was the plague commissioner in the pune city and he was given wide powers to enter the private houses and strip the inmates including women in public by the officers to examine them and take away. this practice was very much resented by the people of the city. Representations to the govt expressing concern about the practice was neglected. Damodar chapekar 29 years, balkrishna hari chapekar 26 and vasudeo chapekar 18 were too enraned. it was the diamond Jubilee year of queen Victoria's coronation and functions were held at govt house in the city. the three brothers planned for action. the commission er WCrWC Rand and his military escort Lt Ayerst were returning from the function by a carriage . the three brothers entered the carriage and shot the officers with their revolvers.
