KNOWN AS MANYAM TIGER IN present COASTAL ANDHRA. it was madras presidency at that time. he was a terror to british govt in 20 century during freedom movement. the new law of British govt that prohibited certain provisions of cultivation for tribals ( called podu cultivation ) in tribal belt of coastal andhra covering East godavari dist and vizag dist created great disturbance among locals and Raju organised rebellion called rampa rebellion . the armed tribals with bows and arrows,muzzle loaders, spears, daggers, axes. lances,muskets swords and primitive tribal weapons attacked many police stations and looted arms and ammunition. raju became a terror in the, region . rajus actions took place at chintapalle krishnadevi peta, rampachodavaram addateegala, dammanapalli, narsipatnam and annavaram. he followed guerilla tactics and succeeded in ambusing police convoys, special troops,, Many police officers were killed too. the govt was much disturbed and organised actions against rebels. They also threatened local population against supporting rebels. unfortunately some persons betrayed Raju and he was captured at koyyuru. Raju was tied to a tree and was shot dead on 7 may 1924..he was 27With his death ,the rebels lost a leader and agitation died. rajus statue has been erectefd near parliament House.
