MAJ GEN DK PALIT.. VrC.. He was from gorka, rifles and commanded 3 battalion 9 gurkha in 1947 Indo pak war. He personally led the attack in poonch sector they captured Mohammed ni gali feature 10000 ft high that over looks hajipir pass the gateway to kashmir. heceas wounded andvwad evacuated. His second in command a British officer lost nerve in pak countercatrack and the unit had to vacate the captured feature that is still with Pakistan. he was awarded VRC for gallantry. Later he was in commands of 7 brigade in tawang sector in 1960..61. he was DMO during 1962 war with china. hisvactions in the crucial war came under lot if criticism. he was the commandant of IMA Dehradun in 1967..69.gen palit was an outstanding mil historian and was a prolific writer and write many books on mil history. his book on war in high himalayas he wrote.. All thecfaulty decisions and strategies in that I'll fated war flew from the basic premice.. China will never attack. he was a soldier scholor at heart and after retirement he engaged himself in mil writing. he passed away on April 3 , 1989.He did not die but he faded away. he was a very distinguished soldier leader but the ill 1962 war and fall of many careers and he retired as maj general. it is an irony of life that no AVSM OR PVSM WAS GRANTED TO those who took part in China war. Nevertheless he lives in every ones heart as a scholar soldier. he was an exception in the drought of mil intellectuals that India suffered seriously.
