LT GEN IS GILL, PVSM MC . He was born in UK on jan 16, 1922.After studying schooling in India, he was studying engineering in England at university of Edinburgh when WWii broke out..He discontinued studies and was commissioned in corps of Royal engineers on 5 oct 1942.He served in operation animals by British special operation executive in which he earned Military Cross.He was also mentioned in dispatches for operations in middle East. Just before India got freedom ,he was commissioned in British Indian Army on 7 may 1947 as Lt.He attended staff college in 1954 and took over command of Ist battalion the parachute regt. During 1971 indo pak war ,he was as Director of military training after completing his brigade and div level commands.He was awarded pvsm as major general in 1967 and padma bhushan in 1972.He was promoted to rank of Lt Gen on 1 April 1974.He commanded a corps in eastern sector and later he became GOC in chief western command.He retired on 1 jun 1979.He settled in chennai and was a trustee of various Institutions set up by his father. he passed away on 30 may 2001.
