BENOY BASU, INDIAN REVOLUTIONARY. He , BADAL OR SUDHIR GUPTA and DINESH CHANDRA gupta WERE also from Calcutta and were staunch revolutionaries and they planned to assassinate Lt Col INS SIMPSON , I g of prisons who enjoyed very bad reputation of torturing prisoners in most inhuman way. they also wanted to teach a lesson to the British govt for continued occupation of India.It has come to be known as war on writers building. the trio in European attire entered writers building that was a secretarial at Dalhousie square in Calcutta and shot dead the IG PRISONS , INS SIMPSON. SOON THERE WAS AN EXCHANGE OF FIRE with the near by police. Soon the police overpowered them and Badal Gupta swallowed cyanide immediately while other two shot themselves with their revolvers. Basu died, but Dinesh was badly injured and was saved at hospital. he was tried and sentenced to death. On 8 Dec 1930. he was hanged on 7 July 1931. as a revenge for his hanging , kanhailal Bhattacharjee another revolutionary shot Dead. the concerned judge GERLICK on 27 July 1931.
