SANTI. GHOSE, Indian revolutionary, She was from Calcutta and from a respectable family and ar very young age was attracted to revolutionary activities.She was only 15. When she and Sunil chaowdhry 14 shot and killed Charles Geoffrey buckland stevens a British beaurocrat and district magistrate. In his office on 14 Dec 1931.they entered his office on the pretext of offering candya and chacolates as christamas was approaching. the officer accepted the gifts and said the candy is very tasty, santi and Sunil pulled out loaded automatic pistols hidden under the shawls. And santi said.. well about this... and shot him dead... they were arrested immediately and imprisoned in a local British jail. local press and even in England articles appeared hailing her actions as an Indian answer to the ill treatment of Indians by British administration. She was sentenced for life term in 1932 and was banished. she was ill treated physically abused in the jail and was released in 1939 along with others . after release she joined communist movement and later joined Indian nationak congress. . she married prof Chittagong Ranjan Das in 1942. she also served West Bengal legislative council from 1952.. 62. And 1967 to 68. And in assembly from 1962. To 64. she wrote a book Arun Baha'i.
