ILA MITRA.. she was born in calcutta and graduated at calcutta. She was a leader of santhals and organised uprising of santhals in naehala upzila chapal nawab gunj. She was arrested when she was trying to escape and was put in custody where she was physically and sexually abused. By group of police men. she was put in rajshahi central jail on 21 jan 1950 after she was awarded life imprisonment where she fell sick . she was released on parole by Pakistan provincial govt and sentvto calcutta for treatment. She recovered but she did not go back and stayed in India. she worked for Bangladesh liberation in1971. she was elected tk west Bengal legislature from1962.. 71 and 72 to 77.Shecworked to prevent riots against Muslims in 1965.She died in 2002.
