LT GEN SP THORAT, GOC IN C, EASTERN COMMAND. RETD. He was recommended being outstanding  by Gen Thimmayya  Chief of Army staff of India  to succeed him after retirement.  Gen Thorat fore saw threat from China and  briefed Gen Thimmayya who forwarded the note to Menon and PM. But Menon the MOD  struck it off saying Thorat was a war monger and alarmist.  The note However  was over looked by the coterie of Nehru the PM and    krishna menon the Def minister  and  Gen Pran nath Thapar was promoted in lieu  as the army chief.  Gen  SP thorat retired . The politics played by the coterie of Nehru, Menon and thapar resulted in disastrous defeat of Indian army at the hands of Chinese in 1962 war resulting in  loss of  large areas of   ladakh and NEFA to China  and  brought disgrace to the nation and great loss of lives of Indian Military personnel..  Gen PN Thapar was sacked later along with Menon. Nehru did not recover from the great shock and shame and died in 1964.
